Dylan Gage Hiner, 17, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 4, 2017. He was born September 18, 1999, in Lawrenceburg, a son of Kevin and Donna (York) Hiner.

Basketball was Dylan’s passion. A sophomore at Knightstown High School, Dylan started on the varsity basketball team there for the past two years. Many hours were spent practicing at the Hoosier Gym, Kinnaman’s, and the Knightstown High School gym, referred to as his “three home courts”. He also proudly played on the AAU team, Indiana Flame, which he very much enjoyed. Dylan was confident and had a focused vision that he would someday play for the NBA, and he worked every day to make it a reality.  It was also stated “When the lights went out, Dylan never stopped practicing”.

Selfless, giving, happy, full of life, always smiling, and family-oriented were descriptive words shared about Dylan. Terrified of bugs and spiders, Dylan took up fishing about six months ago, which he very much enjoyed.

Dylan lived his life for others, and very close to his family, which include his parents, Kevin and Donna (York) Hiner of Knightstown; a brother, Cameron (Mary) Hiner of Knightstown; sisters, Natosha (Drew) Smith of New Castle, and Megan (Joe) Haase of Knightstown; maternal grandparents, Dorvin and Martha York of Spiceland; maternal great-grandmother, Colene Catron of Spiceland; paternal grandparents, Ray (Penny) Hiner of Kennard and Phyllis (John) Ulam of Anderson; three nephews, Ayden and Bronson Hiner, and Easton Smith; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including John and Nikki Walters, and Brayden, Brynnlee, and Keelan Walters, to whom Dylan was very close.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Oral Catron; paternal great-grandparents, Ralph and Irene Riggs, and Richard Hiner.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 8, at Hoosier Gym, 355 N. Washington St., Knightstown, IN 46148.
