GREENFIELD — As parents gear up for the annual summer challenge of keeping the kids busy, summer camps are high on the list for providing opportunities to be creative, learn new things or improve on skills. Below are some of the local camp options for kids. Watch the sports section for sports camps being offered by Hancock County school systems.

Arts Camps

Princess Ballet Camp

Dates: June 12 – 15, 10 a.m. to noon

Location: Dance East Ballet Academy, 23 N. East St., Greenfield

Broadway Kids Camp

Description: This “Lion King”-themed camp features vocal music, drumming, choreography, acting through storytelling and character development

From Wheel to Glaze to Kiln

General Camps

Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department Kid Kamp

Dates: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 30 – July 28

Location: Riley Park Shelter House, 210 Apple St. Greenfield

Age: 6 – 12

Cost: $80/week for residents; $90/week for non-residents; $25 non-refundable registration fee; $45 cash only fee due at Open House for field trips

Description: Games, sports, arts & crafts; enrollment limited to 75

Technology Camps

Film and Animation Workshop

Dates: June 12 – 15; June 19 – 22; June 26 – 29; July 10 – 13; 9 a.m. to noon

Location: Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. County Road 200W, Fortville

Ages: 10 – 14

Cost: $60

Description: Participants learn the basics of computer modeling, texturing, lighting and animation using Maya and 3ds Max. 3D scanning and digital audio production are introduced. Students also learn how to record and edit video in a working TV studio. New technology for this summer’s workshop is a digital sculpting station and a Phantom 4 drone that records 4K video

Camp Invention

Dates: June 12 – 16, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Location: Fortville Elementary School, 8414 N. County Road 200W, Fortville

Age: elementary age

Cost: $225

Description: Campers are offered hands-on challenges to encourage creative problem solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship and innovation. Camp Invention’s top priority is to inspire future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create.
