Robert B. Erwin, 84, of Greenfield, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, April 27, 2017, at his home. He was born on the 18th of November, 1932, in Mitchell, Ind., to the late Joseph Dilley and Clara (Sharpe) Erwin.

Following his boyhood in Mitchell, Robert received a football scholarship to attend Wabash College. He then earned his dental degree from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.

While studying to become a dentist, Robert met and fell in love with Cynthia J. Ballantine, and they later married on August 31, 1957.

As a newly practicing dentist, Robert moved to Greenfield in 1958 to begin building his practice and a family. Throughout his career, he enjoyed serving the community as a dentist and orthodontist, filling thousands of cavities and sculpting thousands of smiles.

During his years in Greenfield, Robert was proud to take an active role in many community organizations. He was a founding member of St. James Lutheran Church, was a member of Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, served as President of the Greenfield Central School Board, and was an active member of the Greenfield Sertoma Club.

After raising their four children and beginning to enjoy retirement, Robert and Cynthia fulfilled her life-long dream of opening a gift store when they opened Cynthia’s Hallmark in 1985.

Robert took joy in all aspects of life. He was an avid golfer, lively dancer, world traveler and astute retailer. But above all, he cherished his family and treasured being RB, a loving and warm soul who never failed to inspire the best in someone or be a friend to all.

Surviving Robert are his daughters, Stacey Miller of Fishers; Sydney (Ernie) Ebarb of Texas; Kelley (Tony) Holden of New Palestine; son, Cort (Pam) Erwin of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding Robert in death are his parents listed above and wife, Cynthia (Ballantine) Erwin.
