New Palestine’s softball team used a seven-run sixth inning to beat Franklin Central 13-7 on Wednesday.

Junior shortstop Ashley Prange homered twice and freshman Michaela Jones drove in four runs to lead the Dragons.

New Palestine led 2-0 after an inning, but Franklin Central scored twice in the second. A three-run third and a run in the fourth pushed the Dragons’ lead to 6-2, but the visitors rallied in the top of the sixth to tie the game. The New Palestine offense would explode in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.

The Dragons had 17 hits in the game, including four homers. Emily O’Connor also homered and doubled and drove in a run. Mary Crumlin had a two-run hit. Abby Davis was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

New Palestine played Thursday at Hamilton Southeastern.

Greenfield-Central handles Westfield

Greenfield-Central used a big day from Michaela Ballman in a 9-3 win against Westfield on Wednesday. The senior threw a complete game and finished with four strikeouts. She also tallied three hits at the plate.

Senior Morganne Denny was also hot Wednesday and finished 3-for-4. She hit her third home run of the season in the win. Sam Kihega finished with three hits, including two doubles, while Sara Morris and Makayla Durick added two RBIs each.

Greenfield-Central will play again Saturday at Beech Grove.

Mt. Vernon falls to Bishop Chatard

Mt. Vernon lost to Bishop Chatard on Wednesday, 6-2.

MaKenzie Gee led the Marauders with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, including a double and two RBIs. Tori Whyde and Morgan Scruggs also had two hits in the loss. Kaitlyn Nugent pitched a complete and struck out six.

The Marauders play again Saturday at Columbus East.

Baseball

Cougars notch win against Scecina

Greenfield-Central’s baseball team picked up another win Wednesday against Scecina, 6-2.

Senior Drey Jameson finished with three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. He also scored three of the team’s six runs.

Blake Wilson threw five innings and allowed just one hit for the Cougars. Adam Hutchison earned the save.

Greenfield-Central will play again today at Delta in a Hoosier Heritage Conference doubleheader.

Tennis

New Castle blanks Eastern Hancock

Eastern Hancock’s tennis team lost to New Castle on Wednesday, 5-0.

Individual scores for the Royals (0-3) were not available.
