Mary Beatrice (Herde) Thurston

Mary Beatrice (Herde) Thurston, 59, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday April 8, 2017, in her home. She was born on August 13, 1957, in Harlingen, Tx., as the daughter of Eugene and Jane Herde.

She graduated from Jeffersontown High School in Jeffersontown, Ky., and earned her BS in journalism from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. She married David Gene Thurston on July 8, 1978, in Louisville, Ky.

She co-founded and operated Indiana Carriage, and co-owned and operated Yellow Rose Carriages, with her husband. She enjoyed baking and sharing time with family and friends. She leaves a legacy of kindness and service to others.

Mary is survived by her husband, David Gene Thurston of Greenfield; daughters, Amy Catherine (Jordan) Waltz of Indianapolis, Laura Sue (Brian) Wuchner of Greenfield, and Kelly Beatrice (Claude) Hedlund of Carmel; sister, Katie (Terry) Rixman of Crestwood, Ky.; brothers, Michael (Nancy) Herde of Hingham, Ma., and Patrick (Stephanie) Herde of Hollywood, Fla.; and one grandchild, Emma Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Susannah Dennis.

Visitation with the family will be held from Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at the mortuary. Rev. Dr. James Dunn will be officiating.
