FORTVILLE — The Mt. Vernon Optimist Club recently conducted its first oratorical contest and will send six students to the regional contest April 9 in Anderson.
Any students in fifth through 12th grades were invited to participate in the competition.
First place winners will receive a check for $300; second place $200; and third place $100 at the Optimist breakfast April 1. Participants already received certificates and medals. In the girls’ competition, winners were: Jennifer McGowen, first place; Madeline Bovard, second place; and Madison Smith, third place. Boys’ competition winners were: Josh Ratliff, first place; Drake Borowicz, second place; and Joel Ratliff, third place.
