Rodney Sparks, 72, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at his residence. He was born on August 23, 1944, in Indianapolis as the son of Robert K. and Velma E. (Apple) Sparks.

He graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1962 and received a degree in auto diesel mechanic from Nashville Auto Diesel College. Rodney married Janet L. “Bo” (Cole) on October 13, 1978, in Greenfield.

He was a farmer and the owner of R.L. Sparks Trucking and R&J Lawncare. Mr. Sparks attended Curry’s Chapel Church and was a member of Eden Masonic Lodge #477. He enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR and pitching horseshoes.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Janet L. “Bo” Sparks of Greenfield; four sons, Randall Keith (Shelley) Sparks of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Rodney Alan (Dawn) Sparks of New Palestine, Duane Lee Sparks of Florida and Daryl Lynn (Pam) Sparks of Greenfield; brother, Gary (Arlene) Sparks of Greenfield; sister, Joan (Floyd) Hannon of Greenfield; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Velma Sparks.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, at the mortuary. Pastor Steve Ellis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
