Samuel M. Sample, 57, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on December 24, 1959, in Rapid City, South Dakota, as the son of Harold Ray Sample and Bernice D. (Swendsen) Joyce.

He graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in 1977 and continued his education at IBEW Local #481 Vocational Training.

He worked as a Journeyman Electrician for over twenty years with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of Local #481. Mr. Sample was a member of IBEW #481, the National Electrical Association, Hancock Masonic Lodge #101, and Greenfield Christian Church in Greenfield, Indiana. He was also on the 1975 state runner up Greenfield-Central football team and was recently inducted into the Greenfield-Central Athletic Hall of Fame with the rest of the team. Mr. Sample loved to golf and watch Notre Dame and Colts football. He was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Katie and Jay Bateman of Mitchell, Ind. and Lauren and Kegan Roszell of Pendleton; brother, William “Bill” Bradley Sample of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Trenton Bateman, and Macy and Josiah Roszell; former spouse and friend, Debbie (Holmes) Kuntz of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, at Greenfield Christian Church, 23 N. East St, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the visitation at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, at Greenfield Christian Church. Reverend Frank Everett will be officiating.
