Suzanne (Emery) Underwood, 87, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born on June 6, 1929, in Cleveland (Lakewood), Ohio as the daughter of Chester Alexander and Ruth (McDavid) Emery.
She graduated from New Tier High School in Winnetka, Ill. in 1947. Mrs. Underwood received her B.A. in Retailing and Merchandising from Simmons College in Boston, Mass. in 1952. She married George Cooper Underwood on June 7, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Wellesly, Ma.
Suzanne was a dedicated homemaker, loving mother and devoted wife. She was a volunteer for elementary schools where she helped with reading and writing. She was also a girl scout leadership volunteer for many years. Mrs. Underwood raised and had shown many champion standard poodles. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She loved cooking and baking and being with her family. She also was a real estate sales person for many years.
Suzanne is survived by her sons, Mark Emery (Krista Ayscue) Underwood of Raleigh, N.C., and Geoffrey Cooper (Melanie O’Connell) Underwood of Mooresville, N.C.; daughter, Wendy Jane (James H. Owens III) Underwood of Carthage; sister, Jane (Edward) Perry of Sherborn, Mass.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Melanie Underwood and Brooke Alexandra Underwood, both of Mooresville, N.C.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Ruth Emery; and husband, George Underwood.
