Set to compete: Mt. Vernon hosts winter guard invitational

FORTVILLE — More than 45 winter guard teams from across the state are expected to attend the Mt. Vernon High School Band and Guard Program’s 2017 Mt. Vernon Winter Guard Invitational.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. County Road 200W, Fortville. Admission will be $6 for adults, $3 for students and free for infants on laps.

The Mt. Vernon High School Band and Guard program, an award-winning group of musicians, consists of the wind ensemble, symphonic band, jazz band, pep band, percussion ensemble, the “Band of Marauders” marching band, Eighth Grade Academy band and the winter color guard.

Performances by Hancock County schools are scheduled as follows:

  • 11 a.m.: Mt. Vernon cadet guard
  • 11:49 a.m.: Mt. Vernon junior varsity guard
  • 12:45 p.m.: Greenfield-Central junior varsity
  • 1:18 p.m.: “Destiny” independent guard
  • 4:18 p.m.: Mt. Vernon varsity
  • 5:30 p.m.: New Palestine varsity
