NEW PALESTINE — Brandee Bastin has been selected as the newest member of the New Palestine Town Council.

She prevailed over two other New Palestine candidates, Adam Axthelm and Mark Looney. The candidates sought during the Jan. 17 Hancock County caucus to capture the seat vacated by Larry Jonas, who moved out of town limits and had to give up his council seat. Bastin joins current council members president Jan Jarson and vice president Clint Bledsoe to fill out the town’s three-person governing body.

Bastin, 41, the tobacco initiatives coordinator at Hancock Regional Hospital, has served the community through a variety of volunteer roles as well. The New Palestine resident was a founding member of Hancock County Young Republicans, has been a precinct committee leader for New Palestine and has volunteered with the Republican party for nearly a decade. She is also a graduate of the Indiana Leadership Forum, a Republican leadership training program in Indianapolis, which she said helped her qualify for her seat on the council.
