NEW PALESTINE — It’s not every day students can tape the principal to the gym wall with masking tape and get away with it.

Students at Doe Creek Middle School celebrated the 20th anniversary of Spirit Day the Friday before winter break.

The day marked the end of the first semester for seventh- and eighth-graders, who got to blow off steam and compete in competitive events like tug-of-war, bean-bag toss and go-kart races.

“There’s nothing like seeing the students all excited and having fun,” principal Jim Voeltz said.

Students were divided into six different teams.

The students and teachers dressed up in team colors, painted their hair and screamed their heads off during the fun-filled day.
