GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department has announced open gym hours for one of its most popular recreational games, pickle ball.

Pickle ball, a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels, combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong and is played with a paddle and plastic ball. It can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.

Open play for singles and doubles is offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays at the Hancock County Memorial Building gymnasium, 98 E. North St. Registration is $2 per person each visit; players should bring their own paddles. Two extra paddles are available to rent for a small fee.
