Larry Lynn Nelson, 71, of New Palestine, passed away December 28, 2016, at his home. He was born in Rush County, on April 16, 1945, to parents Willie and Opal Nelson.
Larry graduated from Arlington High School of Rush County. He retired from Chrysler Corporation of New Castle after 36 years of service in 2000. He was a member of UAW 317.
Larry (Papaw) loved spending time with family, watching sports (IU basketball), and spending time on the Ohio River boating with friends, “River Rats.”
He is survived by his wife, Judith Marlene Nelson; son, Michael (Julie) Nelson; daughters, Barbara (Mark) Velandingham, Melissa (David) Compton; sisters, Lula Mae Kuhn, Donna Wilson; grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah, Collin, Hayden, Austin, Zach, Lindsey, Hayley; great-grandchildren, Madilynn, Finn.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Nelson.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 30, at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W US Hwy 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 31, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Arlington East Hill Cemetery in Arlington, IN. Officiating will be Pastor Carl Coffey.
