Ray C. Crickmore, 91 of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on July 6, 1925, in Yoder, Ind. to the late Cornelius and Lillian (Wall) Crickmore.

Ray enlisted in the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17. He served during WWII and Korea as a radio operator aboard a submarine stationed in the pacific. He married the love of his life Barbara E. Wright on June 1, 1947. After serving, Ray spent his life working as a District Engineer for Indiana Gas Co prior to his retirement. Ray was one of the last WWII survivors in the county and was heavily involved with local veteran groups. He was a member of the American Legion Post #119 in Greenfield; The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2693 in Greenfield. The Hancock County Veteran’s Honor Guard; and the county’s 40/8 Veteran’s Organization. Ray also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and spending time with family.

Surviving Ray are his daughters, Diana G. Keesling of Dunkirk, Ind.; Vicky K. (Garry Monroe) Jeanes of Hartford City, Ind.; son, Randy R. Crickmore of Greenfield; sister, Dorothy Lydy; five grandchildren, Kristi McCombs; Christopher Wray; Timothy Keesling; Patrick Wray; Steven Shivley; and four great-grandchildren with one currently on the way.

Preceding Ray in death are his parents whom are listed above; wife, Barbara E. Crickmore; daughter, Penny A. Johns; sister, Vergie Merriman; brother, William Crickmore; sons-in- law, Ron Keesling; and Russell Jeanes.

Visitation for Ray will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 West Main St, Greenfield, IN, 46140. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, also at the funeral home. Military Honor’s will be presented by the Navy and Greenfield Veteran’s Honor Guard immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow military honors at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Muncie, Ind.
