Former Cougars’ hoops All-American earns HOF nod

Beth (Davis) Fagan, a 1988 Greenfield-Central graduate, will be one of 11 players honored by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on April 29 as a member of the 2017 Women’s Induction Class. 

Fagan is recognized as one of Indiana’s all-time greatest athletes, selected as first-team all-state in volleyball, softball and basketball. She was chosen as a 1988 Indiana All-Star after setting records at Greenfield-Central in career points (1,617), rebounds (695) and assists (233).

She was named All-American by Street & Smith’s, Women’s Basketball News and USA Today. She later played three seasons at Wake Forest, becoming the third player in program history to reach 1,000 points at 1,172.

Cougar Value Cards available for holidays

The Greenfield-Central High School athletics department is selling Cougar Value Cards through the holidays.

Cards are $10 each and provide discounts to 20 merchants in Greenfield. The value cards are available at the ticket table during home basketball games and in the Greenfield-Central Athletic Department during regular office hours.

The merchant list includes: Applebee’s, Chicago’s Pizza, Dave’s Express Car Wash, Firehouse Subs, Lincoln Square Pancake House, McCleery’s Sporting Goods, McDonald’s, Montana Mike’s, The Mug, Orange Leaf, Papa John’s, Papa Murphy’s, Strike Force Lanes, That Fun Place, Valvoline Express Care, Waffle House, White Castle, Worland Cleaners, and Ye Olde Head Shoppe Salon & Spa.

Tickets for Greenfield-Central showcase games available

The Greenfield-Central Cougars are playing in the City Securities Hall of Fame Classic at the New Castle Fieldhouse on Dec. 29. The Cougars open against Plainfield at 11 a.m. and will advance to either the 6 p.m. consolation or 7:30 p.m. championship game.

The Cougars also are playing in the Indiana vs. Kentucky Challenge Cup at the New Castle Fieldhouse on Jan. 7. The Cougars play Mason County (Ky.) High School at 11 a.m.
