Phillip Dale Orem, 70 of Knightstown, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born June 28, 1946, in Kokomo Ind., the son of the late Joseph Merrick and Thresa LaVonne (Unger) Orem.
Phil was a graduate of Russiaville High School in 1964 and of Purdue University in 1970 with a degree of Dr. of Veterinary Medicine. He served the surrounding community for 46 years with his knowledge and love of animals. He married Diana Burton, the love of his life, on September 7, 1968. He was a member of Center Christian Church of Mays, before joining The First Baptist Church of New Castle. Phil also served on the Rush County Public Health Board for several years, enjoyed working with large and small animals over the years and was a sports fan cheering for Purdue in basketball, football as well as the Colts and Pacers.
Survivors include son, Patrick Orem of Pittsburgh, Penn.; and daughters, Philana Dee Orem of Knightstown, Anjanetta Marie (Brian) Oricoli of Pickerington, Ohio, Alicia Mae Orem of Madison, Wisc., Autumn Dalynn (Joseph) Paul of West Harrison, Ind.; two grandchildren, AJ and Bellamarie Oricoli; brothers, David and Charlie Orem of Russiaville, Ind.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diana in 2013; and sister, Patricia Orem Zell.
Friends will be received Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 5 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church in New Castle. Funeral service will be held at Noon, Friday, December 23, in the First Baptist Church in New Castle with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Arrangements are entrusted to Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.
