John Edward Patton, 74, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2016. He was born on September 12, 1942, in Crawfordsville, as the son of Edward and Kathleen Patton.

He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1960. John worked in the radio industry for many years, and later in life returned to Indiana and became active in local politics. He was a true Hoosier and a patriotic American.

A proud father, grandfather and uncle, John is survived by his loving daughter, Melissa Patton-Ward; sons, Clayton and Jordan Patton; grandchildren, Megg, Zeke and Devin Ward; and younger brothers, Dick and Tom Patton.

John joins his parents, Kathleen and Edward Patton in eternal rest.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all who have come to know John through his capacity as a member of Greenfield’s City Council for D3. He truly enjoyed representing his fellow residents and viewed all of you as an extension of family.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. also at the mortuary. Private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604, or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
