GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Sertoma Club recently announced the winner of its annual Freedom Essay contest, Alexandra Miano of Zion Lutheran School.

Five students who entered essays into the contest were invited to attend the local banquet, where each of the students read their essays and were presented a framed copy of the Bill of Rights by Ind. Sen. Mike Crider and Sertoma president Kin Polizotto.

Alexandra Miano’s essay will be entered in the Southern Indiana district competition, and she and her family will be invited to the Freedom Banquet in February, where the winners will be announced.

Sertoma Club is a national nonprofit service organization that works through volunteer service to improve the quality of life today for those at risk or impacted by hearing loss through education and support.

“After hearing is lost it becomes one of the most expensive parts of life to maintain,” according to the Sertoma website. “Some insurance companies will pay for testing or will give discounts on equipment, but many will not pay a dime. Our passion is to create a world where everyone who chooses, can hear us. And our passion will compel us to raise awareness of our cause, educate those willing to understand, and support those who need our support.”
