New Palestine drops close loss to Shenandoah

The New Palestine Dragons lost a tough one Friday night, falling to visiting Shenandoah 66-50.

The loss drops the Class 3A Dragons to 0-2 on the season after losing to 2A Eastern Hancock in their season opener on the road, 61-51, on Nov. 26.

Freshman Maximus Gizzi led New Palestine with 15 points, connecting on a two 3-pointers and shooting 3 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Jalen Qualkinbush, a senior, was 7 of 7 from the charity stripe to finish with 13 points. Sophomore Dylan Romine chipped in 12 points on two 3-pointers and a 4-for-4 performance at the foul line.

The Dragons put together a 22-point fourth quarter to cut into Shenandoah’s lead, but the 2A Raiders had enough to fend off New Palestine and improve to 3-0 on the year.

New Palestine returns to the court at home tonight against 3A Rushville at 7:30 p.m.
