Reception set for Bicentennial artist

GREENFIELD — A reception for watercolor artist Cathleen Huffman will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Twenty North Gallery, 20 N. State St. On display is Huffman’s collection of Indiana grain elevator paintings created over the last 12 months as an official Bicentennial Legacy Project. Huffman’s goal was to photograph and paint the remaining grain elevators in all of Indiana’s 92 counties before they’re lost to time and progress.

Have you written your letter to Santa?

GREENFIELD — Children in the fourth grade and younger can receive a letter from Santa Claus by placing their letters and a self-addressed stamped envelope in Santa’s special mailbox. Sponsored by the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department, Santa’s Mailbox is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through Dec. 9 at the Pat Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St.

Church hosts bazaar and luncheon

MT. COMFORT — Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N. Mt. Comfort Road, will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 3. The bazaar will feature more than 50 arts and crafts booths along with vendors and a silent auction. A sweet shop will offer pies, quick breads and cheese balls. The luncheon menu includes chicken salad croissants, homemade soups and desserts. Attendees are asked to bring canned goods to donate to the local food pantry and shoes for donation to the local group Changing Footprints.

Celebrate the holidays in Shirley

SHIRLEY — The historic Octagon House, 400 S. Railroad St., hosts a variety of holiday events. The ninth annual Christmas Tree Walk takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10. Tours are free; a lunch of soup, sandwich, dessert and drink is extra. Attendees can also visit with Santa from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10. The proceeds from food sales benefit the restoration of the historic building.

Drive-in for Christmas

SHELBYVILLE — This year’s Christmas at the Skyline will offer two free holiday movies – “Elf” at 7 p.m. and “Christmas Vacation” at 9 p.m. — and a visit with Santa on Dec. 2 and 3 at the Skyline Drive-In movie theater, 3986 E. Michigan Road. Gates open at 5 p.m. The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Rupert’s Kids, an organization founded by Rupert Bonham which provides mentoring and education to youth.
