Helen Catherine (Leyrer) Steffen, 92 of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Crestwood Village Assisted Living in Indianapolis where she was a resident since February of 2015. She was born on January 19, 1924, in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late William G. and Marguerite (Engle) Leyrer.
Helen attended Lutheran grade school in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1942. She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Greenfield.
Surviving Helen is her son, Thomas W. (Alice) Steffen of Indianapolis; daughters, Donna R. (Kurt) Schlicht of Indianapolis, Linda E. (Fred) Parish of New Palestine, Sandra S. Alexander of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel, Bryan Alexander, Robert Parish, April Weatherford, Jamie Fields, Amy Sturges, Kimberly Self-McArthur, Michelle Self-Ballard, Ryan and Andrew Steffen; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents listed above; and husband of 67 years, Donald Henry Steffen.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 West Main St, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. following the visitation with Pastor Larry Gember from St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
