The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Nov. 3

Los Maguelles Mexican Restaurant

Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R – continue to repair flooring – no holes or low places – clean, seal, repair coving, to be corrected by Feb. 1; NC/R – store ice scoop on clean surface or in ice scoop holder, do not let handle of ice scoop go into ice, to be corrected by Feb. 1; C/R – working spray bottles must be labeled with chemical name, to be corrected by Nov. 7; NC/R – obtain correct sanitizer test strips for quat sanitizer and use, make sure tablets fully dissolve, to be corrected by Feb. 1.

Location: 209 S. Main St., Fortville

Violations found: C – hand sink only to be used for hand-washing and always clean, nothing in it, corrected; C/R – no employee health policy, sample given, to be corrected by Jan. 1; NC – need thermometers in all coolers, to be corrected by Jan. 1; C – need to mark spray bottles with common name, corrected; C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; NC – water not hot enough in customer restroom near beer tap room, to be corrected by Jan. 1; C – raw chicken above other food in reach-in cooler, corrected; NC/R – need to clean floors in kitchen under equipment such as fryers and refrigeration units, to be corrected by Jan. 1; NC/R – lights need repaired, replaced in kitchen, to be corrected by Jan. 1; NC/R – repair walls and coving in kitchen area, to be corrected by Jan. 1; NC/R – vent exhaust needs to be cleaned to remove build-up of grease, to be corrected by Jan. 1.

Violations found: NC – low battery reading on food thermometer, to be corrected by Feb. 2; NC – need to have thermometers in all refrigeration units, corrected; C/R – label spray bottles that contain chemicals with common names, corrected; NC/R – continue repair of wall behind dish machine, to be corrected by Feb. 1; NC – clean floors under equipment where grease and grime have built up, to be corrected by Feb. 1.
