Dr. Paul A. Schneider

Dr. Paul A. Schneider, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016, with his family at his side. Dr. Schneider was born April 1, 1928, in Evansville, the son of the late Anthony J. and Margaret Ann (Heuring) Schneider.

He graduated from The Indiana University School of Medicine and was an Orthopedic Surgeon in Indianapolis and Greenfield, pioneering in hip replacement surgery. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Fellowship of Distinguished Physicians, Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a recipient of the Sofield Fellowship.

He was an international fisherman and traveler having visited all seven continents and fished in many of them.

His commitment to his profession and community was evident by his love of medicine and involvement in many community causes including volunteering as a guide at the Eiteljorg Museum. He enjoyed family trips to Hayward, Wisc. and his trips to Arizona to visit his son, Paul. He enjoyed gardening and had been certified in Walnut Tree Management from Purdue. Dr. Schneider was described by colleagues and patients as a kind and caring human being and was known for his love for sharing his repertoire of jokes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret (Brown) Schneider; his children, Paul A. Schneider, Jr., Lynn Marie Jacob (Terry), Debra Sue Davenport (Jay) and William Alan Schneider (Joni); grandchildren, Anthony and Jamie Jacob, Megan (Davenport) Hill, Alison (Davenport) Penepacker, Christopher and Jessica Schneider; great-grandchildren, Anderson Paul Hill and Hank Alan Penepacker.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stephanie Jacob and his sister, Evelyn Eisele.

Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, November 14, at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the IU School of Medicine or the IU School of Nursing.
