Janis K. “Jan” Engle (nee Walker), 74, formerly of Gwynneville, died Monday, November 7, 2016, at her home in Harrison, Ohio, after an extended illness.

Born March 27, 1942, in Dent County, Mo., she was the daughter of John Carson and Stella Mae Walker. She married the late Willard “Bill” Engle on November 18, 1963.

Survivors include her son and the greatest joy of her life, Carl W. (wife, Suzanne) Engle of Harrison, Ohio; stepgrandson, Christopher Dinkelacker; her sisters, Lois Belger and Ethel Greene of South Carolina; many nieces and nephews of South Carolina; and special friend, Robin Carlton. She also leaves her special caregivers, Beverly Godby, Jackie Fogle, Deb Showalter, Melissa Auhagen, and Kayla Adams, who she called her angels.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, John William Walker and Willis “Hank” Walker.

She grew up on the family farm in rural Missouri and attended Salem High School. She began working at 16 years of age, and worked in a variety of occupations over the years, but spent most of her career in retail at the LS Ayres linens department. She also worked as a seamstress out of her home.

She was a member of the Eastern Star No. 316, where she held many offices, a past mother advisor of Rainbow Girls in Morristown and a former member of Morristown Christian Church. She was an accomplished artist and seamstress, and was passionate about her home, her art, and her family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 11, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown, IN, with Eastern Star services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ted Hagel officiating. Interment will be in Hanover Cemetery in Shelby County.
