Events planned to honor local veterans

GREENFIELD — Each year, local schools and organizations host public programs to honor area veterans.

On Thursday, programs will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. at Maxwell Intermediate School, 102 N. Main St., Maxwell; 9:30 a.m. at Eden Elementary School, 8185 State Road 9; 10:30 a.m. at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, 200 W. Green Meadows Drive; and 1 p.m. at J.B. Stephens Elementary School, 1331 N. Blue Road.

On Friday, programs will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. at Harris Elementary School, 200 W. Park Ave.; 9:30 a.m. at Greenfield Central Junior High, 1440 N. Franklin St.; 10:30 a.m. at Golden Living Center-Brandywine, 745 N. Swope St.; 1 p.m. at Weston Elementary School, 140 Polk St.; and 2:15 p.m. at Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St.

The annual Take a Vet to Lunch event will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Those who plan to attend should RSVP to the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce at 317-477-4188.

The Greenfield Elks Lodge will offer a free lunch to all veterans 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the lodge, 820 S. State St. Hancock County Veterans Service Officer Bob Workman will be available to discuss veterans benefits and programs.
