Michael David Byrnes

Michael David Byrnes, 65, of rural Carthage, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016, at his residence. He was born August 31, 1951, in Vincennes the son of James L. and Helen (Williams) Byrnes.

Mike graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes in 1970, Indiana State University in 1974, and earned a Masters degree from Ball State University in 1979. He retired in 2011, from Charles A. Beard School Corporation having taught Social Studies for 35 years. He also served as assistant football coach and coached many other sports. He was a member of ISTA, NEA and IFCA. He had worked as a real estate agent for the past 10 years. He enjoyed telling stories, entertaining family and friends, cruising vacations with friends, and watching Notre Dame Football.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years, Anita (Schmidt) Byrnes, whom he married November 29, 1975; three children, Melissa (Jim) Briney of Kokomo, Scott Byrnes (Jessica Heiser) of Noblesville and Megan (Jason) Dennison of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Grace, Eleanor and Andrew Briney, Annelle Heiser-Byrnes and Natalie Dennison; two brothers, Jim (Tania) Byrnes of Sebring, Fla. and Jon (Deb) Byrnes of Bruceville; sister-in-law, Connie Byrnes of Vincennes; aunts, Mary Tippy of Dallas, Tx. and Marlene LeClair of Ca.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Byrnes.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 10, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, November 11, at the funeral home with Father John Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
