Property tax deadline draws near

GREENFIELD — The second installment of property taxes is due Thursday at the Hancock County Treasurer’s Office, 111 American Legion Place, Suite 205, Greenfield.

The Treasurer’s Office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It will also be open 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The office will closed Tuesday for Election Day.

Taxes can be paid in the office with a check, cash or credit/debit card. To pay online with a credit or debit card, log on to hancockcoingov.org and click the Tax Payment button. If paying with a card, there is a fee charged by the credit card company. The fee is 2.75 percent of the amount being paid, unless it is a Visa card, then the fee is $3.95.

Those paying their property taxes by mail should be sure the envelope is postmarked before Nov. 10. Any sent after Nov. 10 will receive a penalty.

A payment drop box is located in front of the courthouse annex, 111 American Legion Place, Suite 205. Payments will be accepted until midnight Nov. 10.
