LAST OUTING: Delta defeated New Castle, 27-7. Greenfield-Central defeated Jay County, 41-21.

SERIES LAST 30 YEARS: Delta, 23-0.

NOTES: Greenfield-Central junior quarterback Andrew Leslie threw for his second-highest yardage total of the season last week in the win over Jay County … He completed 7 of 9 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns … Senior running back Michael Sosnowski pushed his rushing total to 1,425 yards this season after gaining 283 on 13 carries against Jay County… Sosnowski also scored four touchdowns … Cougars senior running back Skylar Gary has gained 940 yards on the ground this season but has been limited in recent weeks and only gained four yards against Jay County… Greenfield-Central has won three of its last four contests with its only loss being a 27-20 defeat to Delta … Sosnowski had 187 yards against the Eagles in Week 8 but the Cougars fell behind early and could not catch up on the road… Delta topped New Castle 27-7 last week in the first round of the sectional … Eagles freshman Charlie Spegal has gained 1,542 rushing yards to lead the team … Spegal also leads the team with 15 touchdowns … Senior quarterback Tanner Lambert is second with 669 rushing yards … Lambert he has rushed for 10 scores and has completed 48 percent of his passes for 919 yards and 10 touchdowns … Both the Cougars and Eagles finished 3-4 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Pendleton Heights (3-7) at Mt. Vernon (7-3)

GAME TIME: 7 p.m., Mt. Vernon field.

COACHES: Jed Richman, 3-7 in 1st year at Pendleton Heights, 38-37 in 7th year overall. Doug Armstrong, 44-22 in 6th year at Mt. Vernon, 96-78 in 16th year overall.

SAGARIN RATINGS: Mt. Vernon, 57.62, 99th overall, 24th in Class 4A. Pendleton Heights, 43.95, 164th overall, 44th in Class 4A.

LAST OUTING: Pendleton Heights defeated Connersville, 31-7. Mt. Vernon defeated Richmond, 46-14.

SERIES LAST 30 YEARS: Mt. Vernon, 18-17.

LAST MEETING: Mt. Vernon, 28-9, Sep. 23, 2016.

NOTES: Mt. Vernon handled Richmond last week to open sectional play behind 162 rushing yards from senior Eric Jones … Jones had a season-high 195 rushing yards in the season finale win over Yorktown … Junior quarterback Zac Montgomery completed 8 of 12 passes for 104 yards and two scores … He now has 1,624 yards through the air this season to go with 14 touchdowns … Defensively, senior linebackers Nathan Seifert and Mitch McCarthy lead the team with 112 and 101 tackles, respectively … Pendleton Heights had plenty of success last week, as well, against Connersville … Sophomore quarterback Christian Conkling completed 8 of 12 passes for 103 yards … He has 869 total passing yards this season … Senior running backs Payton Huth and Corbin Cox lead the team with six touchdowns apiece … Huth has the most yards on the ground with 916 … Cox has gained 585 yards and averages more yards per carry than Huth … Senior Jordan Kirkpatrick leads the team with 280 receiving yards and three scores … Pendleton Heights beat Delta in Week 7, 31-28, despite finishing 1-6 in the HHC … Mt. Vernon won the only meeting this season between during Week 6, 28-9, and finished second overall in conference play behind New Palestine.

Triton Central (6-4) at Eastern Hancock (5-5)

GAME TIME: 7 p.m., Knarr Field.

COACHES: Tim Able, 33-14 in 4th year at Triton Central, 158-112 in 24th year overall. Jim O’Hara, 25-9 in 3rd year at Eastern Hancock, 112-57 in 15th year overall.

SAGARIN RATINGS: Triton Central, 48.01, 149th overall, 12th in Class 2A. Eastern Hancock, 37.42, 197th overall, 24th in Class 2A.

LAST OUTING: Triton Central defeated Switzerland County, 42-6. Eastern Hancock defeated Centerville, 27-0.

SERIES LAST 30 YEARS: Triton Central, 13-8.

LAST MEETING: Triton Central, 33-13, Aug. 19, 2011.

NOTES: Last week’s win over Centerville was the first shutout for the Eastern Hancock defense all season … It was also the first time the Centerville offense has been held to zero points this year … The Royals used a big game from senior running back Devin Denny to seal the win on the road … He finished with 188 yards and two touchdowns and now has 1,119 total yards this season … Junior quarterback Jarett Lewis has thrown for 1,717 yards for Eastern Hancock, which began its season 0-2 before rolling off four consecutive wins … Lewis also has 18 passing and six rushing touchdowns … Junior linebacker Spencer Maxwell leads the Royals’ defensive unit with 90 tackles … Triton Central and Eastern Hancock used to meet annually but have not done so since 2011, a 33-13 win for the Tigers … Triton Central has back-to-back wins, including last week’s 42-6 win over Switzerland County … The Tigers led 42-0 at halftime … Leading the offense this season for Triton Central is senior quarterback Jordan Crouse, who has thrown for 1,476 yards and 17 touchdowns to go with 12 interceptions … Senior running back Ben Thacker, playing in only seven games, has rushed for 469 yards and three scores … Junior Mason Durrett leads the team with 485 rushing yards and four touchdowns … Sophomore Aaron Steele is the Tiger’s biggest weapon in the passing game, catching 51 balls for 832 yards and 12 scores this season.
