HANCOCK COUNTY — Organizers of the first-ever Flat 50 bike ride and race are celebrating its success.

The ride included 25-mile and 50-mile routes throughout Hancock County to encourage people to live a more active lifestyle. Almost 150 riders traveled more than 5,100 miles throughout Hancock County and raised nearly $4,500.

The event also included a free kids’ ride with a safety lesson, and each child received a flashing strobe courtesy of Family Bike Chain to place on their bike for safe travel. Children and their families completed a 1-mile loop along the Pennsy Trail. The goal of this ride was to help children and families become more comfortable with active transportation as a part of their everyday lives.

If you missed this year, registration for next year’s ride will be available at the beginning of 2017. Visit www.facebook.com/hancockflat50 to receive updates for weekly group rides and details for next year’s event.
