Cougars’ doubles team falls in three sets
The Greenfield-Central No. 1 doubles duo of Saben Fletcher and Dylan Wilburn competed in the Fishers Regional on Saturday during the IHSAA Individual Tennis State Tournament.
The senior tandem pushed Franklin County’s formerly unbeaten Braydon Ertel and Dylan Little (25-1) to three sets in the semifinal before losing 2-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Fletcher and Wilburn finished the season 16-3 on the year and 2-1 in the postseason.
Plainfield’s Tyler West and Derek Wright (22-2) won the regional, 6-3, 6-1.

Volleyball sectional opens this week
The IHSAA volleyball state tournament opens this week with sectional play.
Class 2A Eastern Hancock will start the postseason in Sectional 42 at Heritage Christian on Thursday against Irvington Prep Academy. The match is schedule for 7:30 p.m.
In Class 3A, New Palestine drew Herron in the first-round of the Sectional 27 tournament Thursday at Indianapolis Crispus Attucks. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
The Class 4A Greenfield-Central Sectional opens Thursday. Both the host Cougars and the defending champion Mt. Vernon Marauders drew first-round byes and will play each other in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Carmel Tops North Central for title
Top-ranked Carmel claimed the first three matches, including the clincher at No. 1 singles, to best three-time defending champion North Central, 4-1 and win the 2016 Boys Tennis State Championship on Saturday.
Junior Patrick Fletchall (16-0) rallied from a set down and won a third set tiebreaker from North Central freshman Ian Brady, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) to secure the title for his school.
It was the Greyhounds’ (17-0) ninth crown in the sport and halted North Central’s three-year run as reigning champs. The two schools have combined for the last seven titles.
