Henry A. Von Essen, 89, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016. He was born on July 23, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, as the son of Anthony E. and Sophie E. (Chmieleski) Von Essen.

Henry served in the Navy during World War II. He married Molly A. (Schubert) on May 21, 1949, in Long Island, NY. He was the owner of Suburban Products in Greenfield for more than 50 years.

Mr. Von Essen was a member of the American Legion of Greenfield and St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield.

Henry is survived by his son, Lawrence (Bernadette) H. Von Essen of Greenfield; daughters, Carolyn A. (Ron) Cochran of Wildwood, Fla., Lorraine T. (Ron) Davis of Lake Placid, Fla. and Andrea (Michael) Apple of Indianapolis; brothers, Fr. Pacificus Von Essen and Fr. Peter Von Essen, both missionaries in Japan; sister, Mary Ann Leland of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Stella Von Essen of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony E. and Sophie E. Von Essen; wife, Molly A. Von Essen; brother, Allen Von Essen; and granddaughter, Kylene Padgett.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A rosary service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield, IN 46140. Father Aaron Jenkins will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
