Katheryn ‘Kathie’ Joan Smith
Katheryn “Kathie” Joan Smith, 59, of Knightstown, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016, from ALS. She was born November 11, 1956, in Middlesboro, Ky., the daughter of Ruth (Fultz) Biehl and James Martin.
In 1973, Kathie married the love of her life, Dale Smith. Kathie and Dale started a family business in Spiceland, Ind., selling carpet and furniture. The business still is in operation today. Kathie worked at Smith’s Carpet and Furniture most of her adult life. She kept the books, answered phones and helped customers.
Kathie thoroughly enjoyed her family and friends. She loved spending time with and caring for her grandchilden. She loved to read and go shopping. Kathie was surrounded by many friends and enjoyed taking vacations with her family and friends. Corvette trips were a favorite event. Traveling to Gatlinburg and vacations to warm places were among her favorite destinations.
Kathie is survived by her husband, Dale Smith; son, Ryan (Alissa) Smith of Knightstown; daughter, Sara (Adam) Hollars of Spiceland; four grandchildren, Carson and Mason Smith, Jackson and Nova Hollars; sisters, Margaret (Wayne) Harris, and Tammy Barnes; brother, Bob (Diane) Biehl; sister-in-law, Janice (Gary) McDaniel; brother-in-law, Cleatus (Linda) Smith; father and mother-in-law, A.C. and Kate Smith. She had a number of other relatives and close friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 13, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Funeral service will at 10 a.m., Friday, October 14, with Pastor Lawrence Fultz and Eric McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
