The Mt. Vernon volleyball team upped their winning streak to an even dozen with a decisive 3-0 victory against Noblesville on Tuesday night.

The Class 4A No. 11 Marauders have won 12 consecutive matches and improved to 21-6 on the year. Mt. Vernon’s most recent loss was 3-1 against New Castle on Sept. 15.

The Marauders went to work immediately against the host Noblesville Millers to secure victory, beating them 25-22, 25-12, 26-24.

Jaclyn Bulmahn led the team with 19 kills, followed by Ashton Barr and Sarah Herman with six apiece. Bulmahn added a pair of aces, two total blocks and seven digs.

Grace Hurst and Julia Wayer paced the back row defense with 12 and 18 digs, respectively. Maddie Keerns and Meridan Eads both had six. Barr posted 21 assists, while Eads had 13.

The Marauders host Warren Central today before heading to the Hancock County Tournament on Saturday at Eastern Hancock.

Dragons mark senior night

The New Palestine Dragons celebrated senior night with a 3-0 sweep against Shelbyville on Tuesday.

The Class 3A No. 7 Dragons won 25-11, 25-15, 25-10 to improve to 21-7 on the year.

Kara Morris contributed 38 assists in the win and registered four aces. Allison Dennemann had 20 kills and 11 digs. Mia Long chipped in 16 kills and seven digs.

Dennemann now has 503 kills, breaking the school’s single-season record that was formerly held by New Palestine head coach Kelli Whitaker.

“I’m proud for our girls for many reasons tonight. They played great and really worked as a team,” Whitaker said. “The three seniors (Morris, Audrey Edwards and Maddie Wampner) have had an incredible career at New Pal.

“We are going to miss them so much.”
