Stephen A. Harvey, 69, of Chester, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 2, 2016, after a brief illness. Steve was born on August 19, 1947, in Indianapolis, and grew up in Knightstown.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1972. He was stationed at Fort Lee in Petersburg. Va., where he met Judith, they married on October 25, 1968, at Chester Baptist Church. He was an active volunteer firefighter at Chester Volunteer Fire Department, Company 1, for 8 years.

Many will remember Steve for his 26 years of service as the Logistics Officer with Chesterfield Fire and LMS. In 2008, he was awarded the highest civilian honor as Chesterfield Fire and LMS Civilian Employee of the Year.

He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Hammond of New Castle; father and stepmother, Sherman and Louise Harvey of Greenfield; his wife, Judith S. Harvey; four sisters, Marsha Richey (Mike), Linda Jordan (Jerry), Sally Molden (Terry), and Betsy Willis (Ronnie) all of Wilkinson; his son, Joe Harvey (Amanda) of Chesterfield; daughter, Angela Gorman (Donny); and grandchildren, Laura Beth, Guy, J.D. and Hayden.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Thomas Hammond of New Castle.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 7, at Chester Baptist Church.

J.T. Morriss & Son (Chesterfield Chapel) will be handling arrangements.
