The Mt. Vernon volleyball team kept its streak alive on Thursday night, beating Shelbyville 3-0.

The win marks the Marauders ninth straight since upending Center Grove 3-2 on Sept. 17, and it improves their season record to 18-6. They are 3-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Mt. Vernon used a balanced effort to secure victory on Thursday with Jaclyn Bulmahn, Ashton Barr and Sarah Herman each recording eight kills. Kari Kramer had six kills and five blocks to led the front row defense.

Julia Wayer had a team-best 15 digs, and Grace Hurst and Maddie Kerns finished with 11 and nine, respectively. 

The Marauders won 25-10, 25-18 and 25-14.

Royals roll to victory

The Eastern Hancock Royals pummeled Christel House on Thursday, winning 3-0 at home.

The Royals defeated their foes 25-6, 25-4, 25-7. Leah Ferguson led the team in kills while Haley Best paced the back row in digs. Laurie Eells and Eriel Truitt guided the offense in assists. 

The Royals are now 10-12 on the season.

Cougars roar past Arabians

The Greenfield-Central Cougars blanked Pendleton Heights 3-0 on Thursday night. 

The Cougars defended their home court 25-22, 25-22, 25-13 to improve to 15-8 on the year and 2-4 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Laura Banton led the team with 10 kills. Emily Diehr added eight more. Molly Broome finished with four aces, 23 assists and three blocks. Diehr had five blocks.

Hannah Burkhart posted a team-best 13 digs. Banton had 10. 

Dragons win 20th match

The New Palestine Dragons picked up win No. 20 on Thursday night, defeating Triton Central 3-0.

The Dragons won 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 to improve to 20-7 on the season.

Allison Dennemann had 26 kills and 10 digs. Kara Morris pitched in 35 assists, 10 digs and four kills. Mia Long added 12 kills, eight digs and a block. Lydia Jones had 13 digs and two aces.

Boys Soccer

Dragons tame Arabians

The New Palestine boys soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Thursday with a 3-0 win against Pendleton Heights.

The Dragons finish the year with a 9-6 record and 5-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference for second place.

James Pridgen had a goal and an assist in the first half. He fed Holton Gwaltney for the team’s second first half goal. Levi Miller added his 12th goal of the year in the second half.

Marauders win finale

The Mt. Vernon Marauders shutout Hamilton Heights 5-0 to finish the regular season on Thursday night. 

The Marauders are 12-2 on the year and captured the outright Hoosier Heritage Conference title earlier this week.

Carson Jones had two goals, while Jarret Whitehouse, Spencer Linder and Marvin Stewart all had goals. Assist went to Matt Schafer with three and Drew Heitman and Jon Hanson with one apiece. 

Josh Powell recorded the shutout behind the tenacious defense of Anthony Wallace, Jeffrey Boxberger, Joe Young and Zach Roach.

Cougars fall to Trojans

The Greenfield-Central Cougars lost 2-0 at New Castle on Thursday night. 

The host Trojans scored a goal in each half to win the match. The loss dropped Greenfield-Central to 10-2-1 on the season and 5-2 in the conference, which ties them for second.
