Church to launch with concert

GREENFIELD — The Stirring, a new church in downtown Greenfield, will launch with an outdoor concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot next to Greenfield Fire Station 21, which is located at 17 W. South St.

The Yellow Kites and the Prodigals will perform.

Face painting and food will also be part of the evening.

Mission Celebration beginning soon

GREENFIELD — Mission Celebration begins Sept. 24 at Trinity Park United Methodist Church.

Each year, members of the church can volunteer to give to mission work in the United States and around the rest of the world. But before they make that commitment to the year’s missions, they — and anyone else who wishes to come — can hear updates from a few missionaries about their work.

All events take place at the church, 207 W. Park Ave. Babysitting is provided for all services.

Sept. 24

6 p.m.: Taste of Greenfield, featuring special dishes from Greenfield-area restaurants, in the Ministry Center

7 p.m.: Service in the Ministry Center with the Rev. Kevin Zirkle, former missionary to Japan and regional director for World Gospel Mission, speaking and Water In2 Wine singing

7 p.m.: JAM (Jesus and Me) and Junior Worship in Room 11, featuring Jon and Lindsay Birkey, who work in children’s and youth ministries on the American Indian field

Sept. 25

9 and 11:15 a.m.: Service with the Rev. Kevin Zirkle speaking and Water In2 Wine singing

9 a.m.: Junior Worship in Room 11 with Jon and Lindsay Birkey

10:15 a.m.: Sunday School

11:15 a.m.: JAM and Junior Worship in Room 11 with Jon and Lindsay Birkey

After 11:15 a.m. service: Catered dinner in the Ministry Center with everything provided

Start early with ‘94 Days ’Til Christmas’

NEW PALESTINE — While Christmas is several months away, the New Palestine United Methodist Church women’s group is offering its annual 94 Days ’Til Christmas craft and gift sale.

The event will take place at the church from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Sept. 24. It will feature 40 vendors selling everything from jewelry to kitchen items.

The event is free. Lunch will be served, with food items set to cost a dollar. However, the popular homemade cinnamon rolls, sold in the morning only, will cost $2.

Vendors will keep their profits, but church officials plan to use the money they make from booth rental and food sales to do good work throughout the community, state and world.

Don’t miss out on Kids Club grilling party

BRANDYWINE TOWNSHIP — Sugar Creek Baptist Church will have a back-to-school Kids Club for ages 3 to 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. today. It will be followed by an all-ages Family Day grilling party with meat provided, games and prizes for the family. Bring chips or cookies if desired. The church is located at 3928 S. County Road 100W. Women’s group plans Country Fair

IRVINGTON — Irvington Presbyterian Women will present the IPC Country Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the church, 55 Johnson Road, Indianapolis.

Shoppers can enjoy the rummage sale, bakery, boutique, gifts and lunch. The gift basket raffle, with themed baskets containing gift certificates, food items and/or other gifts, is another favorite. Raffle tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and 8 for $10. Winners need not be present for the drawing. Tickets will be on sale at the church office. General admission is free.

The cafeteria is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Presbyterian Women mission projects, such as the Irvington ICAN food pantry and School 57, plus national and worldwide PWC interests.

Grandview festival features food, music

PENDLETON — The community is invited to a free festival presented by Grandview Church from 1 to 5 p.m. today. Activities will include bounce houses, carnival games, old-fashioned cake walks, free food and music. Several local first-responder agencies will include activities and exhibits.

The church is located two miles north of Fortville on State Road 13 at the entrance to Summerlake addition.

Free workshops offer help for dealing with past

GREENFIELD — A free series of workshops, “Putting Your Past in Its Place: Moving Forward in Freedom and Forgiveness,” will meet at Calvary Baptist Church, 1450 W. Main St. Sessions meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 11 and 18. Register at 317-468-6300.

Simulcast features Beth Moore

GREENFIELD — St. James Lutheran Church will serve as a host location for a simulcast well-known Bible teacher and best-selling author Beth Moore live from Chicago today.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 1741 S. State St. The simulcast ends at 5:15 p.m.

Tickets are free. Lunch can be purchased for $7.

BRANDYWINE TOWNSHIP — A free chili supper and movie are planned for Oct. 1 at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9. The chili supper begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by “God’s Not Dead 2” at 6:30 p.m.

Men invited to Wild Game Dinner

FORTVILLE — Fortville Church of the Nazarene’s 10th annual Wild Game Dinner today will feature a record-setting hunter and bluegrass music.

Typical and non-typical deer scoring will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. From 4 to 5 p.m., doors open for archery and appetizers, with the dinner and giveways starting at 5.

The carry-in dinner will include South Texas Boar, Indiana Venison, Lake Erie Fish, Canada Geese, Wyoming Antelope, duck, squirrel and more. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish in a disposable container.

Dinner will be followed at 7 by this year’s guest speaker, Brad Jerman. His Ohio buck holds the world record for the largest typical whitetail ever taken with a crossbow. His deer mount will be on display during the event.

The evening will also feature outdoors-related vendors, Indiana Sen. Mike Crider and bluegrass music.

After Jerman speaks, five door prizes will be given away: two rifles, two shotguns and a crossbow. You must be 18 to enter for the door prizes and present to win.
