The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 23

Hawk’s Tail

Location: 1453 Morristown Pike, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – need to wash hands before touching/handling food after handling money, corrected; C – dish machine is not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; C – no employee health policy, corrected; NC – ice scoop in bar needs to be stored in a manner to prevent contamination, tongs for hot dogs need to be cleaned and sanitized every four hours or stored in hot running water, corrected; NC – eating utensils should be stored with handles up so customers do not touch lip contact surfaces, to be corrected by Aug. 23.

Treat America Food Service

Location: 400 W. New Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – sliced and shredded cheese must be stored in ice that comes up sides of container, corrected; C/R – sliced lunch meats in reach-in cooler at customer area not date-marked, corrected; NC/R – no paper towels at hand sink by three-compartment sink, corrected.

Aug. 24

Griggsby’s Station

Location: 101 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – leak in ceiling in walk-in cooler, to be corrected by Aug. 31; C – have copy of health policy in store and go over with employees periodically, to be corrected by Aug. 31; NC – obtain chlorine test strips for dish machine in bar, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 29

Hardee’s

Location: 1881 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – pre-cooked chicken on prep line too warm, corrected/discarded; NC/R – clean under drive-thru beverage dispenser, biscuit cooler and under equipment where grease/grime has built up, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C – review health policy with employees, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 30

Ponderosa Steakhouse

Location: 1585 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – chicken nuggets on buffet line need to be held at 135 degrees or higher, corrected; C— dish machine sanitizing solution not dispensing, corrected/service called; NC/R – repair/replace stainless steel panels behind dish machine, wall under dish machine deteriorating, needs to be repaired, floor of walk-in cooler not secure, needs to be repaired, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC – walls, coving and corners of floor need to cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean, to be corrected by Nov. 1.
