The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 11

The Grill 2

Location: 6621 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – cheese slices in top left drawer under grill too warm; NC/R – hot water not working at hand sink in bar; NC/R – paper towels need to be available at all hand sinks; NC/R – need to have thermometer in all refrigeration units; C/R – use tongs for olives, lemons, etc., that will be placed on/in drinks; NC – some lights are not working; C – hand sink in kitchen is blocked by sani bucket.

Foxgardin Kitchen & Ale

Location: 215 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – cooler across from grill too warm, corrected; C – three-compartment sink sanitizer not dispensing, to be corrected by Aug. 11; NC/R – need test strips for dish machine and three-compartment sink, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R – do not store clean knives with soiled knives on magnetic strip, do not store ice scoop on top of ice machine, corrected; NC – need hand soap available at hand sink at bar, corrected; NC – paper towels are needed at bar area, corrected.

Aug. 16

Tour of Italy

Location: 5 American Legion Place, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – employee observed touching face/nose with gloves on started to prepare food, corrected; C – employees need to have drinks covered and stored away from food and prep area, corrected; C/R – dish machine and three-compartment sink not dispensing sanitizer, to be corrected by Aug. 17; C – remove spoons from hand sink in beverage area, corrected; NC – clean knives stored with dirty knives on magnetic strip, corrected; NC – wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, to be corrected by Aug. 6; NC – food thermometer with thin tip needs to be available and accessible, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Dairy Queen

Location: 346 W. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – sanitizing solution in wiping cloth buckets too low, corrected; NC/R – ice scoop at drive-thru needs to be protected from contamination, corrected; NC – clean hood where grate/filter is missing, replace grate/filter, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R – repair wall and coving behind and next to three-compartment sink and freezer door frame, wall is loose and bloating, coving missing, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC – clean racks/shelving and floor under shelving, clean wall behind prep table areas, clean drain and area surrounding drain at front counter, to be corrected by Nov. 1.
