Luther Hale Spangler stepped through the door of heaven at Morristown Manor on August 29, 2016. He was born February 1, 1920, in Owen County, Ind. to Joe C. and Hazel Bell Spangler (deceased) and moved to Beech Grove, Ind. at an early age.

Luther graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1938 and attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Williamson (deceased) on December 7, 1940.

Lute, as his friends called him, is survived by his son, Ron (Shirley) Spangler and his daughter, Lois (Gib) Wagner; his grandchildren, Lisa Collins, Todd Spangler, Christine Taylor, and Cathy Higham; his great-grandchildren, Nathan and Brenna Collins, Zayne, Jaiden, and Vance Spangler, Ryan Wagner, Vincent Vanest, and Justin and Jessica Higham; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Britton of Terre Haute, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to being dedicated to his family, he was also devoted to his country. Luther served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945, on a B29 bomber during WWII. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Fountaintown, Indiana and was very involved in the Masonic Lodge. Luther belonged to several lodges, visited many, and was the past master of Pleasant Lodge #134 in 1975 and past master of Morristown Lodge #193 in 2010. Luther loved to play cards, garden, square dance, fish, hunt and camp- but most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 5, with a masonic service at 7pm. Funeral services at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, in Little and Sons Beech Grove Chapel. Services will be conducted by Johnnie-lee Sanders with entombment to follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
