McCORDSVILLE — The annual Lord’s Acre Festival is scheduled for Friday to Sept. 11, at McCordsville United Methodist Church.

And while the festival — which has been a church tradition in town since 1952 — is being headed up by a new couple this year, the event will continue as it has in the past, at least for now.

“The formula has worked so well, we didn’t want to come in our first year and mess it up,” said Chris Arbuckle, who with wife, Missy, have taken the reins of the church’s biggest fundraiser.

“It was a really generous year for us last year,” he said.

The event includes food, more than 20 vendor booths, live entertainment, as well as a bounce house for children on both days.

Food at the festival includes fried fish, chicken and tenderloin sandwiches, hot dogs and Coney dogs and a variety of side items and desserts.

Friday will be auction night, where people can place bids on Colts and Pacers tickets, assorted gift baskets, gift cards and a variety of other items during the silent auction from 5 to 7 p.m.

A live auction will take place at about 6 p.m.

On Sept. 10, entertainment includes a Silly Safari show at 4:30 p.m. This is a live animal show for all ages featuring reptiles, mammals, birds and bugs.

That day’s food menu includes an additional option: the church’s homemade chicken and noodles.

The Sept. 11, church service will take place outside under a tent, weather permitting, where church members will reflect on the festival and give thanks for the opportunity to serve the community.

The event draws a large number of nonmembers, Chris Arbuckle said, and therefore is not only a fundraiser but significant outreach effort.

“It’s a way for us to serve people in the community. It’s a way for us to carry on decades-old tradition in the church,” said the Rev. Daniel Payton, the church’s pastor. “We reach out to families with kids. It’s just a way to offer something positive in the community.”

The church is located at 6247 W. Broadway, McCordsville. For more details, call 317-335-3705.
