GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Fire Territory is seeking applicants for its first citizen’s academy.

The eight-week course begins in mid-September and will give participants a look at the history of the fire territory and the training firefighters undergo while offering some fire safety tips along the way, officials said.

Officials hope educating residents will help develop a positive rapport between firefighters and community members and give residents a better understanding of the daily responsibilities and operation of the fire department, officials said.

The academy is free and held Tuesdays between Sept. 20 and Nov. 8.

There are spots for twenty-five residents. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be recognized by the Greenfield City Council as ambassadors of the fire department. The deadline to apply is Sept. 9.

Applications can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Greenfield Fire Territory, Station 1, 17 W. South St.

Classes begin on Sept. 20 and will be held from 6:30-9 p.m.
