Stewart expected to be at Brownstown
BROWNSTOWN — The All Star Circuit of Champions is set to race at Brownstown Speedway on Saturday night, bringing with it some of the best 410 winged sprint-car drivers in the nation and a likely visit from NASCAR Sprint Cup champion.
The All-Star Circuit of Champions was formed in 1970 by Bud Miller and is recognized as the “Nation’s Oldest Winged Sprint Car Tour.” Tony Stewart, a Columbus native who has said this will be his last season of Sprint Cup racing, became sole owner of the All-Star series in January 2015 and currently oversees all operations.
Stewart is expected to be in attendance Saturday.
The series made its most recent appearance at Brownstown in 1999, with Bloomington’s Kelly Kinser picking up the win.
Brownstown’s overall track record of 12.404 was set by Paul McMahan during this event on June 2, 1999.
Dale Blaney and Chad Kemenah come into Saturday’s event locked in a heated points battle.
Blaney has seven wins this season with the All-Stars and holds a four point lead against Kemenah.
Sheldon Haudenschild currently sets third in points behind Blaney and Kemenah.
“P3 Graphix” Indiana Pro Late Models and UMP Modifieds also are on the racing schedule, with increased payouts for the winners.
A sum of $1,000 will go to the Late Model winner, and $800 will go to the Modified winner.
Marty O’Neal currently leads the “P3 Graphix” Indiana Pro Late Model points standings against Hudson O’Neal.
Jacoby Hines holds a 122 point lead against Tampico’s Rick Gumm in the UMP Modified division.
General admission for the event is $25 for adults. Kids 12 and younger will be admitted free with a paid adult.
Hot laps are set to begin at 6 p.m.
