Royals taking softball coach applications

New Pal baseball sets upcoming golf outing

The New Palestine Baseball Backers are hosting a golf outing Sept. 17. The event will be at The Links Golf Course, 11425 N. PR Links Lane, New Palestine.

Registration is open until Sept. 2. The cost to participate is $300 per foursome, which includes a box lunch, cart rental and dinner.

The event schedule will begin with sign-in at 11:30 a.m., a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and dinner and awards at 5:30 p.m.

Contests will include best scores (first and second place), closest to the pin, longest drive, putting contest, blind drawings, raffles and giveaways.

Cougars to host Fall Cheerleading Clinic

The Greenfield-Central High School cheerleaders are hosting their annual Fall Cheerleading Clinic on Sept. 8.

The event is for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The clinic runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. inside the Greenfield-Central High School cafeteria. Registration begins at 5 p.m.

The cost to participate is $30 per person (nonrefundable). Participants will learn proper motions, techniques and jumps. They will also meet the high school cheerleaders and program coaches and enjoy games and activities.

Those who register by Aug. 31 will receive a free shirt and bow. A cheer performance for family and friends will take place at the homecoming varsity football game Sept. 9 and at the Cougar Classic Cheerleading Competition on Sept. 17 in the high school’s main gym.

Hoosier Gym plans 30th movie anniversary event

The home gym of the fabled Hickory Huskers from the classic movie “Hoosiers” will play host to a 30th anniversary celebration of the film on Sept. 16 and 17.

On Sept. 16, a special showing of the movie will take place inside The Hoosier Gym, located at 355 N. Washington, Street in Knightstown.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. The movie will start at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Concessions and souvenirs will be available.

On Sept. 17, a special banquet and auction will tip off at 6:30 p.m. with an autograph signing set from 2 to 4 p.m.

Guests and speakers set to appear include Angelo Pizzo, David Anspaugh, Bobby Plump, Hickory team members, Bill Benner and Bob Hammel.
