Restaurant Inspections – August 24

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

July 27

Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen

Location: 1793 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — cups stored at drive-thru need to be stored in a manner that will not contaminate lip contact surface, corrected; NC/R — cooler door has residue of food, hand sinks need to be cleaned, soft drink dispenser needs to be cleaned from beverage residue from splashing, to be corrected by July 27; NC — gap at back door, sweep needs to be repaired/replaced to prevent pests, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC — floors need to be cleaned in dish area to remove grease/grime, remove grease/grime from rack fry apron and hoses are stored on, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Wasabi Steak House

Location: 1505 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need to hold cold foods at 41 degrees or lower, corrected; C — chemical spray bottles need to be labeled with common name, to be corrected by July 27; C — need to have employee health policy and needs to be periodically reviewed with all staff, corrected; NC — need readily accessible food thermometer on premises, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC — need to store ice scoop in a manner that protects it from contamination, corrected; NC — need to have test strips for sanitizer available and used, to be corrected by Aug. 5; NC — repair holes in floor and coving in kitchen, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC/R — clean outsides of equipment shelving, top of refrigeration units, doors and handles to remove food debris/grease/grime, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Carnegie’s

Location: 100 W. North St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

McDonald’s

Location: 1490 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need to have employee health policy, corrected; C — employee observed handing their hair and mouth, corrected; C — coolers are running too warm, corrected; C — sanitizing solution in buckets is too low in concentration, corrected; C/R — utensils used for grill must be washed, rinsed and sanitized, corrected; NC — spoons and utensil holder at blender need to be kept clean, corrected; NC — ice scoop cannot be stored in ice, corrected; NC — wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, corrected.
