GREENFIELD — A man was seriously injured Friday morning after he crashed his motorcycle on East Boyd Avenue not far from his home.

The man was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for head injuries. Police were still trying to notify family late Friday morning.

The man sustained a serious head injury, broken bones and road rash after he was thrown from his motorcycle in the 700 block of East Boyd Avenue in Greenfield around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and they suspect he had been drinking alcohol before he hopped on his bike because they could smell it on his body.

He lost control of his motorcycle as he tried to negotiate a curve in the road, was thrown from the vehicle and hit his head on the ground.

The speed limit in the area is 30 miles per hour, and police don’t believe speed played a large role in the accident.

Police ordered blood tests to determine whether he was driving while intoxicated. Results likely won’t be available for eight to 10 weeks, they said.
