Local police are searching for a man who ran from the scene of an accident Tuesday morning.

Police tried to stop a red pickup truck near the intersection of county roads 300N and 100W Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. after running the license plate number through a state database that flagged the vehicle as stolen, police said.

The driver of the car fled from police, leading officers on a brief chase before the driver crashed along County Road 300N just west of Fortville Pike, dispatch records show.

A man and woman ran from the scene of the accident on foot, police said.

Officers and police dogs with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Greenfield Police Department and Indiana State Police searched the area, even calling in a state police airplane to search from the sky, investigators said.

Police dogs found the woman, whose identity has not been confirmed, police said, a short time later near Beckenholdt Park in Greenfield. She was taken into custody and treated for dog-bite wounds, police said.

Officers were still looking for the man at press time.

He is described as a white male wearing a gray shirt and tan shorts. He was not wearing any shoes when he ran from police.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
