Deputy treated for minor injuries following crash

GREENFIELD — A Hancock County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a car crash near the intersection of county roads 200W and 300S Sunday afternoon.

The on-duty deputy was heading southbound on County Road 200W when another driver, who was heading westbound on County Road 300S, pulled out in front of his squad car, police said.

The driver told police she stopped at a stop sign posted at the intersection but had started to pull forward when she saw the deputy’s oncoming vehicle. She continued to pull forward, hoping to avoid a collision with the deputy’s patrol car but was struck.

There is no stop sign posted along County Road 200W where the officer was traveling.

The deputy and the female driver were both taken to Hancock Regional Hospital with minor injuries. They have since been released.
