McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville leaders hope a facelift along the main road into town will facilitate development.

The town council this week approved spending $7,000 for CrossRoad Engineers to perform a study focused on West Broadway Street (State Road 67), from County Road 600W westward to County Road 750N. On the south side of Broadway, the focus stretches a little farther — 1,000 feet west of 750N.

The engineers will research right of way. Ryan Crum, McCordsville’s director of planning and building, said in some communities the existing right of way has not been well documented, with some communities put in the position of rebuying land. The study also will include information on Indiana Department of Transportation grants available for land acquisition.

Based on those findings, the engineers will then develop a plan for sidewalks or possibly medians along the roadway, designed to make downtown McCordsville more attractive and pedestrian-friendly.

“It is a gateway into the larger McCordsville area,” Crum said. “Hopefully that public investment would seed some private investment.”

In its study proposal, CrossRoad estimated it will deliver its findings in about four weeks.
