Food inspections

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

July 11

Steak & Shake

Location: 2121 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – food prep table food being held at 52 degrees, corrected/discarded; NC – clean fronts of equipment, legs of equipment, dish machine area wall where dirt/grime/mold has built up, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Burger King

Location: 1620 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Hardee’s

Location: 1215 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – need to change gloves/wash hands after touching walk in cooler door handle before touching ready to each food, corrected.

July 12

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

Location: 2265 Barrett Drive, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC—need to clean floor under equipment and legs of equipment where grease/grime has built up, to be corrected by Oct. 1; C – must have food handler certificate in store, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Culver’s

Location: 1846 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – store chicken in manner to prevent contamination of other foods and equipment from drippage, corrected; NC – gap at back exterior door, repair/replace sweep to prevent pests, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

McDonald’s

Location: 2290 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – sanitizing solution in buckets too low, corrected; C/R – hand washing sinks are to be used for hand washing only, removed debris and clean, to be corrected by July 12; C – three compartment sink sanitizing solution is dispensing too high, calling for service; NC – uniform shirt stored on shelf at hot food chute, corrected; NC – cup cannot be stored in ice, use scoop and store scoop in clean protected area between uses, corrected; NC – wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizing solution between use, corrected; NC/R – ice build up on fans in walk in freezer, door on frappe cooler not sealing, need to repair/replace, to be corrected by Oct. 1.
